What is the difference between PCB and SMT?

What is PCB?

PCB (Printed Circuit Board) is the traditional name for the bare board. PCB is used to mechanically support and electrically connect electronic components using conductive pathways, tracks or signal traces etched from copper sheets laminated onto a non-conductive substrate.

When the board has only copper tracks and features, and no circuit elements such as capacitors, resistors or active devices have been manufactured into the actual substrate of the board, it is more correctly referred to as printed wiring board (PWB) or etched wiring board.

On an empty PCB board, perform SMT (or DIP plug-in), and the obtained product can be called PCBA (printed circuit board assembly), or this process can be called PCBA (printed circuit board assembly). When we disassemble the electronic product, we can see that the circuit board is full of components, and the circuit board at this time is the PCB processed by PCBA.

What is SMT?

SMT(Surface Mounted Technology) is a method in which the electrical components are mounted directly onto the surface of a printed circuit board (PCB), and is currently the most popular technology and process in the electronic assembly industry. An electrical component mounted in this manner is referred to as a surface-mount device (SMD).

Under normal circumstances, the electronic products we use are designed by pcb plus various capacitors, resistors and other electronic components according to the designed circuit diagram, so all kinds of electrical appliances need various smt chip processing techniques to process. In industry, this approach has largely replaced the through-hole technology construction method of fitting components, in large part because SMT allows for increased manufacturing automation which reduces cost and improves quality. It also allows for more components to fit on a given area of substrate .

What is the difference between PCB and SMT?

PCB is the abbreviation of Printed Circuit Board, which is a board. It is used to support electronic components and provide electrical circuits so that a complete electrical circuit can be formed between the electronic components.

SMT is a circuit board assembly technology. It mounts electronic components on an empty PCB board through a process. It is the most popular process technology that provides support between electronic components and provides circuits to form a complete circuit.
